In Which Seattlest Wanders Up To Ben Gibbard and Sean Nelson and Randomness Ensues

calanderson.JPGWe did our best to ignore the shirtless guy's bongo tappy tappy, but when two California poseurs got him to provide a beat for them to rap to (badly), it was time for our person to move along.

Just as we were walking around the north end of the fountain thing at Cal Anderson Park, we spotted our unlikely subjects: Two northwest indie-rockers sitting out in the sun? They'll burn for sure! We hung back, contemplated how best to save them from the flaming beast in the sky. Offer up the SPF45 in our backpack? No, too obvious. Then it hit us. We should interrupt their private conversation for an interview! About what though? Music? No, again too obvious. The weather? Perfect!

Seattlest: So how do you guys plan to spend the day during tomorrow's possibly record-breaking heat?

Ben: (Laughs) In a nice air-conditioned studio with no direct sunlight.

Sean: I will be doing one of two things. Either I'll be practicing piano at my apartment, which gets no direct sunlight, and is only eight blocks from here in fact, or driving to Portland and back. Oh, and by the way, Seattlest Trivia killed me last time I attended.

Seattlest: Was [Seattlest] James running the show?

Sean: (Looks at the ground) Yeah.

Seattlest: So what's going on in Portland?

Sean: I have to pick up two hand-tailored suits from Duchess Clothiers, because I think everyone should have clothing tailored just for them.

Seattlest: Hope you've got AC in your car...

Sean: Oh yes, and it's a Prius, so I won't be spending too much on gas.

Ben: Ha, I just got a Prius too. I've got this friend in LA -- she said she wouldn't buy a Prius because she's convinced the AC runs off the engine and not the battery.

Sean: No, it runs off the battery.

Ben: Yeah, I know. She thinks she's going to run out of gas or something though, because she'd be using the AC all the time. Anyway, is it really supposed to be record-breaking tomorrow?

Seattlest: Might be. KOMO's predicting 97 degrees. Pretty sure the record is 95.

Ben: Huh. Yeah, I'll probably be tucked away someplace cool. Or maybe I'll be right back here in the grass if there's a nice breeze like today. By the way, who's that guy beating his bongos for? Anyone?
