A decomposed body was found in the house of ex-radio guy Mike Webb. We heard that first on the television, but we've been reading about Webb on the excellent Blatherwatch blog for a while now--they've been following Webb's fall for months, even from way back in the days before they had a special category for "Mike Webb Missing" on the blog.
Webb used to be a liberal talk radio guy. He was charged with some kind of insurance fraud and eventually found guilty, a crime that Blatherwatch has described as clumsy and complicated. In May that blog reported that he was missing and in June that "Mike Webb's house has been ransacked, and he's still missing; but he left his car, and other personal effects behind, according to his deeply worried family."
Since then the police have searched his house several times (although the Seattle Times blurb disputes that: "He said officers had previously been to the home as part of that investigation, but could not legally enter"). A note on the site of Webb's post-KIRO-firing internet radio show also indicates that the house was searched multiple times previously. No bodies were mentioned after those previous searches. This is from Blatherwatch's post on the body from early this morning (bolding from the original):
The cops were called this afternoon about 2p by the landlord's agent, who called 911 after he discovered the body in the house- although he wouldn't say exactly where. The body was so decomposed that its gender, race, or age could be determined.
A family member tells BlatherWatch: "The police had cadaver dogs in there, it was either June 15 or 22nd. The police have done "thorough" searches at least twice, assuring us they went through the house several times on each visit.
The landlord told neighbors he had been in the house a couple of weeks before, and Mike's brother Wayne had been up from California and had been in the house.
But "transients" were said to have been in and out of the easily accessed house, despite attempts to board it up.
On the teevee they speculated that the body was that of Mike Webb, although that seems weird to Seattlest given the fact that he's only been missing since April and the body that was recovered from his house was decomposed to the point where race and gender could not be immediately determined. The P-I has the property manager also speculating that the body is Mike Webb:
"I am pretty certain that the body will be determined to be Mike's," Neth said. "But I find suicide to be a pretty hard sell unless he had a person 'helping him' who didn't really like him."He also said two "unusual items" were near the body, but declined to say what they were.
What the hell is going on here? It seems we're one strange twist away from an Ann Rule book.
Update: Blatherwatch is reporting that according to the King County Medical Examiner the body found in Mike Webb's house was, in fact, Mike Webb and that he was murdered via multiple sharp force injuries.

You should apologize to Mike and to all those who cared about him for your unfounded insinuations.
RIP Mike.
