SF Fans Take Over U-District
Lois McMaster Bujold is an award-winning science fiction and fantasy author. Her fans filled the top floor of the University Bookstore to overflowing Wednesday night - and a dedicated cadre they are. Bujold was peppered with questions and her answers were sprinkled with so many in-jokes that even though we were wearing our best science fiction themed t-shirt we started to feel a bit out of place.
Bujold was in Seattle promoting the publication of the second volume of 'The Sharing Knife', Legacy, which, she carefully explained, was not a sequel, but the second part of a stand-alone book which had been divided in half and inspired another stand-alone book which will be divided in two parts, thus resulting in a tetralogy. Bujold talked a bit about comparative literature, comparing the fantasy and romance genres, and some esoteric stuff about series structures. She threw in some world-building for good measure. The audience lapped it up and then lined up around the room to get books signed. She must be doing something right.
