And Then We Saw a Great Beast of a Man

vspark2.jpgSince its development in 1982, Victor Steinbrueck Park (formerly "Market Park") has been a melting pot of downtown green-space seeking citizenry and tourists. Just about every class of human being can be seen here on a warm, sunny day. We, being fortunate enough to work near the market, spend many a lunch here. We always bring a book to read, but on a day like today, little reading gets done because of all the people watching.

Today we spied:

- A little boy with crazy red hair running around screaming at the pigeons. His dad (with a baby girl in his arms) gave chase but never caught up with him. By the time we left the park, the little creature was still on the loose. We're getting a tranquilizer gun when we have kids.

- Plenty of hot young professional types.

- A dog, taking a shit about two feet away from a couple eating Turkish Delight.

- Two cops, walking a lap around the park, kindly waking all the drunks.

- A dozen or so homeless people who got all the good shady spots. Greedy homeless people...

- An enormous man with a great mane of silver chest and back hair and leathery, rhino-like skin tanned to a dark red-brown, stripping down to his underwear, then pulling on some colorful swim trunks.

- A dozen or so people shrieking in terror at the aforementioned rhino-man.
