More Cafe Presse Press: Copa America In HD

PresseTV.jpgAs we were saying last week, the new Cafe Presse (just south of Madison on 12th Ave) is everyone's instant crush. It's the Julie Delpy of French cafes, beautiful but approachable, even when encountering the Ethan Hawkes of the world.

We were in for lunch again today and noticed there's a chalkboard schedule of soccer games. Research indicates they're televising games from the Copa America, which runs tomorrow through July 15. At 5:45pm, Presse is hitting the On switch to their HD TV (1080 resolution, too, none of that 720 bullshit) and the running and kicking begins. While much has been made of their frugalicious wine list, they have beer in bottles, too, and a lone tap of Stella Artois.

In other notes, if the front room looks busy, there's a back room that's two to three times as large. We counted at least seven waitstaff working over lunch, so no matter where you sit, you're well taken care of.

My favorite salad nicoise is at the Frye Museum cafe, though I don't remember how much it costs.

I covered their Salade niçoise in the first post. Not my favorite version ever, and yes, it is pricey. But then, I don't know how much Italian tuna costs. (Hmmm, seems to run about $4/can.) I'd say $8.50 would be more like it. Feel free to place your own bids.

I wish somebody had tipped me off that the salade Nicoise, at $12, is the biggest rip-off in Seattle.

Guest: I called over for the beer "list" since they don't have it printed up. They've got Duchesse de Bourgogne (Flemish red ale), Bavik (Belgian pilsner), Hoegaarden (Belgian white beer, now owned by Interbrew, who own Stella), and Kronenbourg 1664 (French lager).

Crap. I was hoping to catch the Copa in HDTV. Though I see that since 1993 the U.S. team has gone only in 1993 and 1995 -- they've turned down other years because of schedule conflicts. In fact, they initially turned down the invitation this year, Costa Rica was asked, and then the U.S. decided they *could* make it after all and Costa Rica was all, "stupid Copa, didn't really wanna go anyway."

This Friday is the Argentina v. US game.

Virturally every year it's USA and Mexico.. which is a good thing of course.

Nice about the 1080p, but worthless as the Copa America isn't being broadcast in HD (It's on GolTV, only available as a distant far off channel on Dish Network and DirectTV).

What are the bottled beers? Any other Belgians besides the Budweiser of Europe?

Copa America is a big-ish deal in the soccer world--it's the championship of the South American countries, and every year they invite two other nations to compete. This year, it's the USA and Mexico. You--Ess--A!!!

  • MvB

    Maybe after the game!

You and Cafe Presse should just make out already.
