The View from Rightfield

Out in rightfield, the age range was from about 25-35. Hardly any kids, hardly any middle-aged people. We were grownups, but we'd all grown up with Griffey, and that's why we were out there. He did some playful waving to the crowd, which was fun, but what we'll remember is the ovation when he was introduced--the loudest and longest ovation I've ever heard for anyone, anywhere, it went on in wave after wave for five minutes and was, for us at least, catharsis for having lost Griffey in the first place.

Being at that ceremony was one of my best baseball moments...and I didn't even grow up with Griffey. Just a great homecoming. And an awful, awful game.
