The Hunt For a Nightlife Ordinance Is Back On?
There's been a string of articles around lately about the patrons of whatever bar causing havoc in whatever neighborhood. Of course you all read this one from the North Seattle Herald Outlook on June, 6 about Tommy's in the University District:
Drug dealing, cruising in cars, vandalism and loitering have all become rampant in the neighborhood at night, the manager stated. "It's a war zone," he said. "You're continually assaulted walking up the street."He said the idea of the University District as any kind of a safe haven for college students or retail activity is a dangerous illusion.
"It's just a con," he said.
In fact, the apartment manager said, the "extreme behavior" of people on the streets during late-night events has created a predatory atmosphere in the neighborhood.
"It attracts people looking for prey," he said. "There's definite hunting going on," whether it be for excitement, mischief, property, other people or even, he said, "bragging rights."
Last night there was a shooting at Tommy's that left a man the TV news described as a bouncer hospitalized with life-threatening injuries. The Stranger is reporting that minutes after this video was taken the man depicted in it returned and fired shots.
