Tonight at the Central Seattle Public Library, Tim Westergren, founder of music software company/massive audio archive/internet radio service Pandora, hosts a public forum on his business model and the state of digital music as a whole.
This get-together is a free event, open to everyone. It's a chance for me to share our story with you and hear what you have to say. I'll tell you about the Music Genome Project's beginnings, living through the dot-com collapse and what this last whirlwind year has been like. Most of all I'd like to get your ideas and thoughts about the service and where you think music is headed. I'll also have some nice Pandora gear for everyone!
You can RSVP at tour@pandora.com, though we kinda get the feeling that if you just show up at Microsoft Auditorium, that wouldn't be a problem either. You might want to read up on the Internet Radio Equality Act (Senate version)--sure to be a topic on hand--which Pandora (amongst others) hopes will invalidate the Copyright Royalty Board's egregiously jacked-up fees for online music streaming, set to go into effect July 15 (retroactive to Jan 1, 2006). Just bring your laptop to live-blog the event, as well as your long-winded, pretentious and bloviated statements for the Q&A.
7pm // 1000 Fourth Ave // Free
NOTE: This event could last past 9pm, so a parking lot open later than the one at the library might be safest.
