Tubs Drained

tubs.jpgWell, there goes our longstanding (but never executed) plan to take Mrs. Seattlest there for an evening of hot, steamy irony and discomfort. Tubs is closed. We're never going to know, firsthand, whether this place was a brothel/bath house/sex club or just a... What else could it possibly have been? $17.95 per person per hour. 2 adult minimum after 5pm. Enjoy a one hour vacation today! Whatever, we're more Banya 5 peeps by now, anyway.

Anyone ever check it out?

We suspect not, because it doesn't seem like there's a lot of crossover between internet people and Tubs people. Take Flickr, for example. A search of "seattle tubs" at Flickr turns up a lot of cool pictures, including people bathing in tubs, people sleeping in tubs, people in tubs in the snow, tubs full of salmon, tubs full of trout, tubs under piers, fairy tubs, drums, threats and one, solitary exterior phonecam shot of Tubs, but absolutely zero in the way of photographs taken inside of Tubs.

The auction site that's disposing of the assets has a few pictures, though.

Tubs was great. A nice soak in the tub for cheap. When I went it was always clean, tubs weren't lukewarm, they had warm and hot rooms depending on your preference.

As for cleanliness, it was always spotless. There was a mattress, sure, but unstained...

Better than soaking in an ice cold goose-crap lake, swimmers itch beach or the public kiddie pee pool.

I never saw anything but clean middle class couples waiting in the lobby, and yes, the receptionist was a sexy woman but it's not like she joined you in the tub or offered up anyone else.

Went in with my girlfriend quite innocently not knowing what to expect. The strip club feel of the reception area--and the way the staff looked/acted--pretty quickly alerted me as to what to expect. Hesitant at first, but once we got into the tub, adjusted the music and temperature and got the drinks flowing we totally went with it and used and abused almost every nook and cranny of the space provided. If the implications of possibly insufficient sanitation for a place like this grosses you out, then don't ever, ever come anywhere near a beach, river, or lake again (especially during the summer time).

What IS that white residue in the tub?

Seriously, I HOPE it smelled like lots of chlorine, because I'm sure it needed it.

My girlfriend and I went there for 90 minute massages a while back....only like $60 or something. Very nice, and pretty damn cheap for 90 minutes.

I can just go to Victor Steinbrueck park when I want to sit in someone else's spermatozoa.

It was actually really nice! I live in the U District and have been there a few times. You just payed some money and got to sit in a private hot tub/sauna for an hour or however long. They had drinks and a cd player readily available.

I remember one time in particular I was thankful for it, was after coming home over Snoqualmie pass Thanksgiving weekend. The roads had been terrible that weekend; completely iced over, snow, fog... the works. When my girlfriend and I got home, the stress level was sky high and thankfully, Tubs was available to soak our tensed muscles and get warm.

So those of you with private spas in your condos and hot tubs in your backyards be thankful. For the rest of us, it's a pity see it go.

Went there for the first/last time a few months ago with the wife to see what it was all about and we were creeped out. From the bad decor to the chlorine smell to the creepy little foam mattress bed in each room. And the water was lukewarm at best with no way to control the temperature. It all just seemed like a place designed for discrete, watery hookups (confirmed by the looks of couples exiting the place). We were just looking for a relaxing soak. BTW, the pic above is accurate but does not show you the dry entry area of the room with the aforementioned mattress/bed.
