There Goes That Brilliant Idea
The City Council finally got around to passing "adult cabaret" zoning laws that just might let Seattle develop a strip club scene worthy of a would-be world-class city.
But there's a provision that kills one of our brilliant ideas:
The new rules, which passed by a unanimous vote, require strip clubs to be at least 800 feet from elementary or secondary schools, child-care centers, community centers, public parks or open space where children tend to congregate.Given the number of dancers with kids, that a club that included day care facilities (Montessori, bien sûr) would be a winning combo.
Alas, our brainchild will have to split into two sites at least 800 feet apart.
Regardless, as we said almost a year ago, Seattle deserves better strip clubs, regardless of the quantity. Clubs with sparkle, wit, and innovation, where what goes on inside is as witty as the Lusty Lady marquee.
And with quality child care.
