Journey Fires Singer, But Creates Greatest Press Release Quote of All-Time

journeysmaller.JPGIt's been a big week for 80s power-ballad band Journey, which last played here in August. (and yes, that's how we're justifying this post).

First "Don't Stop Believin'" was a centerpiece of the very last scene on The Sopranos ("'We're a staple in the American music culture. Like us or not, we're here to stay,' said Jonathan Cain, Journey keyboard player," reports the AP.)

Now, they've come up with perhaps the greatest press release quote of all-time. Here's Journey lead guitarist Neal Schon on the band's decision to fire lead singer Jeff Scott Soto:

We appreciate all of Jeff’s hard work and we can’t thank him enough for stepping in when Steve Augeri got sick last year. He did a tremendous job for us and we wish him the best. We’ve just decided to go our separate ways, no pun intended. We’re plotting our next move now.
Journey, even without Steve Perry and his hair, you continue to delight us both at our computer and whenever we are at karaoke. Long Live Journey!

After the jump, the full lyrics to "Separate Ways."

Here we stand
World's apart, hearts broken in two
Sleepless nights
Losing ground
I'm reaching for you

Feelin' that it's gone
Can change your mind
If we can't go on
To survive the tide love divides

*Someday love will find you
Break those chains that bind you
One night will remind you
How we touched and went our separate ways
If he ever hurts you
True love won't desert you
You know I still love you
Though we touched and went our separate ways

Troubled times
Caught between confusion and pain
Distant eyes
Promises we made were in vain

If you must go, I wish you love
You'll never walk alone
Take care my love
Miss you love

(*chorus*)

I still love you girl
I really love you girl
And if he ever hurts you
True love won't desert you
No....no...
