We were all happy to hear about the return of this weekend’s Washington Brewers Festival at Saint Edward State Park. If you are looking for a last minute Fathers Day present, is there anything better than taking your dad out to drink beer all day (While watching people throw kegs)?
Maybe you are not quite as crazy about beer as we are, but we like to know what the “must haves” are before going into a festival. Luckily, you have Seattlest to filter through the list of beers for you.
We will not be able to highlight every worthwhile beer, but this should give you a good start.
Big Time Oaked Big Dance – This is a new Imperial Amber brewed this year that they have let sit in Oak barrels. New beers from Big Time get us excited. Throw in an oak barrel, and this might be the first one we hit.
Big Time Decade IPA – From a brewery known for their NW IPAs, this is one of their best. 75 IBUs of hops, but balanced very well with sweet, sweet malt.
Flyers Pacemaker Porter - This porter from Flyers won a Silver at the Great American Beer Festival last year. We love the aroma on this beer; lots of chocolate and espresso for a porter.
Harmon Puget Sound Vanilla Porter - Quite a bit of vanilla taste in this beer. Only 3 vanilla beans are added to each keg; a little goes a long way.
Maritime Pacific Bootlegger Bosun's Porter - This is a rum-aged porter from the local brewpub. We have not had the pleasure of trying very many rum-aged beers; should be interesting.
Rock Bottom Hop Bomb IPA - Of all the great breweries at the fest, you might be amazed that we suggest a beer from Rock Bottom. But, this specialty IPA is definitely worth trying.
Deschuttes 19th Anniversary Belgian Style Golden Ale - For their 19th anniversary, Deschuttes decided to go with a Belgian Style beer, which is quite rare for them. In fact, we're not sure we have ever seen a Belgian from them...
Let us know if we missed a "must have" beer from the festival list.

Washington Leads the Country in Troubled Banks

Must haves? Absolutely! I haven't had nearly all of these, but these five really stand out to me:
The Anacortes cask IPA is wonderful- had this last year, but it ran out early.
The Baron schwarzbier is something of an acquired taste, but great if you like a unique, smoky flavor.
Bear Republic's Rocket Red- wow is all I have to say. what balance!
Boulder's Hazed and Infused is terrific.
Stone's Ruination IPA
All great choices...especially the Baron Schwarz and Stone Ruination!!!
Can't wait to be there. The Big Time brews sound incredible.
One more to add: Schooner Exact's 3 Grid IPA. This new West Seattle-based outfit's offering is fantastic, strong stuff.
