Get Out Tuesday: Smokey Joe's Café @ Jazz Alley

PoisonIvy2.jpgMUSICAL REVIEW: Tonight Seattlest Matt is checking out what was the longest-running musical review in the history of Broadway, Smokey Joe's Café. A hit-list from the '50s and '60s of songs by Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller, it opens tonight and runs through June 17th. We can almost hear the K-TEL announcer: Featuring 40 of the greatest songs ever recorded, including such hits as "On Broadway," "Hound Dog," "Jailhouse Rock," "Stand By Me," "Spanish Harlem," "Love Potion #9," and "I’m a Woman."

In the cast are LaTasha S. Jordan, Angela Birchett, Famecia Ward, Johnathan Celestin, Stanley Martin, and Ron Lucas. Band members are Darrius Frowner (piano), Gary Ballard (guitar), Larry Holloway (bass) and Milo Petersen (drums). (TRIVIA: Three of the band are local; which one's not?) They say it's basically song, song, song, not much patter, with some big voices on show.
