Get Out Thursday: Christopher Hitchens @ Town Hall
POLEMIC: Understated, respectful, sober -- these are words that describe someone else besides Christopher Hitchens, who we suspect would beat you senseless with his shoe if it meant that he could own "iconoclastic."
Here's the pro-Iraq War Hitch on Michael Moore: "Fahrenheit 9/11 is a sinister exercise in moral frivolity, crudely disguised as an exercise in seriousness. It is also a spectacle of abject political cowardice masking itself as a demonstration of 'dissenting' bravery."
Here's the famous atheist's post-mortem on Jerry Falwell on CNN: "The empty life of this ugly little charlatan proves only one thing, that you can get away with the most extraordinary offenses to morality and to truth in this country if you will just get yourself called reverend. Who would, even at your network, have invited on such a little toad to tell us that the attacks of September the 11th were the result of our sinfulness and were God's punishment if they hadn't got some kind of clerical qualification?"
Tonight he's at Town Hall, discussing his book God Is Not Great, which is selling like unbeliever hotcakes. Sean Nelson talks to Hitchens about the phenomenon here. (FACT: Hitch has been to Walla Walla!)

I actually ran into Hitchens in New York, outside Book Expo America, while I was smoking. Despite his reputation and demonstrable ability to be an erudite ass, he was actually extremely genial to exchange a few words with.

Farenheit 9/11 is a sinister exercise in moral frivolity, crudely disguised as an exercise in seriousness.
Just like Hitchens' crappy critique, then.
