Hole In Wallingford for Sale

For years Wallingford residents have discussed what the old Safeway at Stone Way and 40th was going to become. We always suspected something as interesting as another grocery store, but when a hole was dug for a foundation recently, it became obvious that the site was being prepared for the Trump Tower of grocery stores. Condos on top of a QFC, it was determined, with maybe 30 stories of office space above that and underground parking. Wrong! The truth has now surfaced and the site of the old Wallingford Safeway will now live on as...a giant hole! QFC has determined that it's too expensive to do what they planned to do when they started digging the hole, so a hole it's going to stay until such time as someone buys the hole from them, construction prices come down, or that retaining wall gives way in a good storm some night.

    Now that was funny.

  • Yup that's me

I vote we turn it into a skate park/concert venue/and retail store called the "Low-Maintenance Bastard" so that Seattlest will stop calling us Namby Pambies.

Then by your logic the so-called "wallingford hole" should be a strip club. It could still retain its name too.

I enjoy Safeco Field even though I don't play baseball. I'm a spectator.

Then why a skatepark if you're not going to thrash that shit, bro?

  • Dan

I have a longboard so if by "thrash" you mean roll my fat ass down the Burke-Gilman, then yes, yes I do.

  • Matt Silvie

    Do you still thrash, Dan?

  • Dan

You know, I wanted to speculate what the giant hole could be used for in the post proper, but I couldn't come up with anything good. Either wave pool or ball pit would have sufficed. If we just let it sit long enough it may morph into the country cousin of the ball pit: the mud pit. I vote skatepark, though.

My daughter would like to see a huge ball pit there. They could let adults in at night and serve alcohol. ball pit + alcohol = $$$

I've walked by that spot just about every day for the last 3 years, and I've had a single, desperate hope that we would get the one thing Wallingford desperately needs - GIANT WAVE POOL! It's perfectly set up for it; shallow at one end and deep at another, close to a food source in the 7-11, and major bus lines run right to the corner. We can't lose....
