Is It September Yet?

toht.jpgWhat a weekend! Temperatures in the 80s!

Thank goodness that's over.

We know this is an unpopular opinion, but we can't wait for summer to be over. Yes, we know summer hasn't technically begun, but last weekend was a summer weekend, calendar be damned.

We'd be happy if the thermometer never topped 70 degrees. That may not sound very warm until you realize it's 294 degrees kelvin. That's enough degrees for anyone.

Every Fahrenheit degree over 75 feels like a small thumbtack poking into our brain from somewhere atop an eyeball. And when the little thermometer in our window hits 85 degrees -- let alone 90, like it did this weekend -- we feel like we're reenacting Toht's demise in Raiders of the Lost Ark in slow motion. And we've never threatened any bartenders with a hot poker.

Summer is the perfect season to channel our inner Gollum, hole up in a cool dark place, and watch a movie or an entire season of The Wire.

We should add that we've got nothing against the sun, per se. But when Phaeton brings that gigantic nuclear furnace a little too close to us, we down another glass of water, lather on the sunscreen, grit our teeth, and wish it were the latter half of September again.
