It's Drive-In Season!

Reader, hesitate no further! At the close of last season, we penned a write up of western Washington's drive-ins, threatening to remind you again when the season re-opened. That time is now. This month, drive-in theaters opened.

To celebrate, we paid a visit to Wenatchee's Vue Dale Drive-In since we were in the neighborhood and we had never been. It was a nice two-screen venue with a panoramic view of town behind one screen and a mountain behind the other. Although it was, unfortunately, gravel covered, it was nicely situated in an industrial part of town. This allowed us to see the seedier side of Wenatchee, balancing its very nice downtown.

But you don't have to drive all the way to the East side. Six of the state's remaining eight drive-in are conveniently located in Pugetopolis, or across the water in Port Townsend.

Why drive-ins? First, they are always a double feature and we've never paid more than eight American Dollars total. Secondly, you can bring in as much food as your car can haul. Third, you can scream and hoot and holler all you want with impunity. Fourth, no sticky, disgusting floors to contend with since your car's floor is covered with that blanket of old Dick's wrappers. Fifth, let's not forget the neckin'...

But perhaps the greatest reason was given to us by a vintage commercial that played at the first drive-in to which we ever went: you get to enjoy movies under nature's blanket! THX-High-Definition-Insane-O-Sound notwithstanding, the new Craptiplex 32 at the Stank Valley Mall has nothing on Nature's Blanket.
