Having grown up in Olympia, I'm not terribly surprised about the rain thing. Remember, you guys in the Emerald City get some rain-shadow protection from the Olympics. All that's to the west of Olympia is the Chehalis River valley, so the storms come barrelling right in at us from the coast.
