There's A Method To Our Kvetchy-ness
If you're wondering why Seattlest has been so disputatious lately--bitching about local music venues, local novelists, and local sports team management--it's not because we're angry, joyless pessimists. No, we're just trying to fire up Mariner outfielder Jose Guillen.
In a notebook entry titled "You wouldn't like me when I'm angry" Guillen tells the Times' Geoff Baker that aggravation is what makes him tick:
"I'm going to tell you this — you don't want to piss me off. That's all I'm going to tell you. You don't want to piss me off because when somebody pisses me off I could be the best player I can be that nobody's ever seen. That is something that's always happened to me.Despite the efforts of Seattlest contributors, Guillen wasn't mad enough yesterday, he went 0-4 and struck out with the bases loaded. Obviously we've failed. Look for posts today about the behavior of Seattle drivers at 4-way stops, people who still pay with checks at the supermarket, and a review of Super Bowl XL."It's better off for you to keep me cool, relaxed," he added. "That's something I don't really want. I don't want to relax. I want to be mad all the time. That's when I'm at my best."
