Root Root Root for the Home Queen
Sanjaya, Schmanjaya. There are other Seattle-area residents on reality shows this season. And at least one of them has reached her show's final episode and is in contention for the grand prize: Puyallup's own Miss California, Dustin-Leigh Seltzer (nee Konzelman) on Amazing Race All-Stars.
Dustin and her racing partner Kandice (Dustin's the blonde...with the nice teeth...the one who doesn't kinda sorta resemble Maggie Gyllenhaal) achieved All-Stardom by coming in fourth place last season on Amazing Race 10, and also by being blonde, perky, upbeat, mutually supportive, and lightning rods for bitterness from other teams. They wanted to be the first all-female team to win the race, though surly long-time rivals "Bama" ended up coming a little bit closer.
In All-Stars, they've outraced everyone but the annoying Eric and Danielle and the intolerable Charla and Mirna. Though we've missed about half this season's shows (did we mention we were moving last month?), we're rooting for Dustin and Kandice to win, now that Danny and Oswald have been eliminated.
We're already thrilled that D&K twice outlasted inexplicable fan favorites and ludicrously bad racers David and Mary, a.k.a. "coal miner and wife."
It's not too late to catch a raging dose of Dustinmania. We've pre-stalked her for you:
Wedding photos! Professional or amateur.
Her family band! Official homepage and MySpace. (Note: according to the News section on the official Konzelman page, Dustin may be working at the Cheesecake Factory downtown. Order the sausage and tip well.)
Vicious gossip! "DUSTIN LEIGH WAS THE WORST MISS CALIFORNIA EVER!" And of course, Television Without Pity.
Dustin fever: catch it while you can. The final episode of All-Stars airs Sunday night at 8:00 on CBS.
Mrs. Seltzer, may all your oxen remain unbroken.
