Newsvine CEO on Seattle vs The Valley

Our glamorous older sister LAist did an interview with local tech CEO Mike Davidson last week that's mostly about how Newsvine is cool and getting cooler (and how you can get in on it), but the interviewer does manage to steer him over to the topic of the general tech scene here in Seattle.

How's the new media scene out there?

It's good, it's like a mini San Francisco . I don't feel like we're as much on stage as people in Silicon Valley are. We don't have social gatherings every week, we don't have mixers every other day.

We have just as many talented people in Seattle as the Valley has. We're a little bit more focused on the technology aspect than the marketing and showmanship aspect.

Damn! He goes on to say that that's not a dig on San Francisco, but believe Seattlest, that's a dig on San Francisco. On the other hand, we've got a bunch of technology startups that are struggling to get their products out there, a few showman with not much to show and a very few like Davidson who know how to bring some attention to their worthy products. We could use a few more Valley slicks up in here promoting the cool projects is what we're saying. A few more mixers wouldn't hurt either. Maybe not every other day, but how about every other week? Ignite, we love you, but you shouldn't have to carry the load alone.
