Tomorrow is Cinco De Mayo, so you already know that any vaguely Mexican destination is going to be filled with jackasses drinking margaritas and acting like idiots over what isn't really Mexican independence day. We're fine with the drunkenness, we're fine with the jackassery, but really, there are much better ways to spend your day and night than in some overly adorned restaurant. Here are three of them, and since we know you're going to do the Cinco De Mayo thing anyway, we'll even tell you how to fit this into the more traditional experience:
Peachcake @ El Corazon
Not long ago we were not only excited about Peachcake here in Seattlest HQ, we went to far as to pit the Arizona dance-rock duo against Ratatat's guitar/synth mayhem, declaring Peachcake the early victor in the battle for who would rock out the most. Well, venue issues caused the battle concept to crumble as Peachcake ended up not even playing a show, but all of our praise still stands, and the early timing for Saturday's show (starts at 5:30) means you can leave the show to go fit in some margaritas and dinner.
Ladyhawk/Harlem Shakes/Tapes 'n Tapes @ Neumos
After those margaritas you should head on down to Neumos to continue the night's festivities. We've already seen one great triple-bill this week, and we have an early suspicion that this one will be equally remarkable. We heard good things about Vancouver's Ladyhawk when they were touring with Saturday Looks Good to Me, an appearance we believe was cancelled (our show-memory is hazy). In any case, this will make up for that. The indie goodness continues with Brooklyn's Harlem Shakes, although we're not sure about the Morrissey on helium pitch of the lead singer (then again, we like Sleater-Kinney, so we don't doubt we can adjust to an initially off-putting vocalist). And other heads of Seattlest have pronounced their love affair with Minneapolis' Tapes 'n Tapes, so we're going to find out what all the fuss is about.
Spider-Man 3
So we know it seems like the only comics we ever talk about here are of the Fantagraphics variety, but we grew up with our superheroes too. This option gives you all sorts of flexibility. You can either see the movie early with your kids, or you can go get ripped then see the movie. We're hoping for rowdy, comic book nerdy audiences at our own viewing, despite the fact that we'll be sober as always. We hate many of the creative departures they've taken from Spider-Man canon, but we're still the kind of nerd that eats up these movies anyway.

Don't forget The Decemberists at the Paramount tonight as well! I just learned they are allowing cameras as long as they don't take video. Woo for getting my SLR in. :)
The only two worse movies than Spiderman 3 were the first two. It's horrible. Save your money and drink tequila for Cinco!
Yeah, maybe I should do a retraction for SM3. Saw it last night and it's more corny than Iowa. It's got some fun moments, but overall it's sappy and cheesy instead of the comic book silliness of the first two (more the first than the second).
