As evidenced by last summer's Qwest Field sellout for Real Madrid, Seattle is full of soccer fans.
As further evidenced by the total lack of recognition given to Sounders coach Brian Schmetzer when he pled for fan support at halftime of that game, Seattle is not full of Sounders fans.
Which is perhaps why last week's Sounders opener didn't make our radar. Or maybe it's because the home opener isn't until May 5th. But they've definitely started not touching the ball with their hands, we promise.
Here's the state of the Sounders:
They lost last season's star player, Cam Weaver, who's now playing for a first-division team in Norway. Their other top scorer is gone too, so the Sounders snagged a couple of free agents for a new front line. I'd tell you their names, but you wouldn't know them, so why bother?
The Times did a Sounders preview last week. Sounder Central, which may be the most comprehensive blog for any local sports team, covers the road opener, a loss to Vancouver.
Sounders games are actually pretty fun, if you don't mind the cavernous atmosphere at Qwest Field. We swear up and down to get to more of them each year, and we never do, but we'll try again this year. The home opener is, just to reiterate, Saturday May 5th at Qwest Field, tickets from $13-18.

Aw, schucks, *someone noticed.* :)
Thanks for the linkage and Sounders coverage. We are so 'underground' we need helmet flashlights around here.
Better late than never (LOL).
Any of you lot who like to drink lots of beer and get rowdy and such, stop by section 113 for matches this season, and the pre-match pint-fests at Fuel nightclub (two blocks north of Qwest Field).
Oh, and we're putting out a CD compilation of local bands, and a rock show with 3 of the bands on the CD (24 Hour Church of Beer, Kings of the Wing People, and Zero Down) at Fuel after the Rochester game on Friday May 18.
There are many good reasons to watch the Sounders.......but I can't think of any.....
Smiley faces and LOL's. As evidenced by these two nerds, there is nothing at all fun about "getting rowdy" with this bunch. Even your grandmother would call them dorks.
Definitely come to the May 5th opener and see how real soccer fans are. Only they won't be cheering for the home team. :)
How quaint. I am so glad I cheer for the Timbers. See you clowns May 5.
And by the way, some of us would know who the Flounders signed because you signed one of ours.
Shame that your own fans don't appreciate him.
Hey, somebody noticed!
Lucky for all Sounders fans (and I use the term loosely) they'll get a chance to see real football fans.
For the lot that "drink beer and get rowdy" as Eric so eloquently put it, stop by 113, see how boring it is, and continue on to the visiting side.
Bickle sucks. Lendog swallows.
Typical Cinder Scout bravado and lack of anything else to do but post about a rival until the welfare check arrives.
Trash to be taken out, after being compacted, May 5th.
Glad so many of them will be on-hand to give the Sounders their $$$ and witness it.
Seth:
If you cover the Sounders every time the Timbers are in town, I swear you'll get lots of hits on this blog.
Did you know the Flounders won the title two years ago, before those two recently departed top scorers even arrived in Seattle?
Cinder Scouts, please put down the mouse & keyboard and go back to masterbating in front of your photos of Andrew Gregor.
We have Donuts! Just like church.

We don't appreciate Hugo? He's played in one match for crying out loud. Trust me, we will be cheering him on as he whips in crosses to Andre the Giant against scot "softy" thompson!
Sure, you cinder scouts have good numbers. Nobody is saying you don't. It's too bad you lack class.
Class and meaningful trophies/cups.
"Cinder Scouts". This is the height of invention and ingenuity for this crew of clowns. How can you read those posts and *not* hear Milhouse's voice?
...like the comment about Timbers fans 'giving' you money by travelling... shows how much you understand soccer culture. would love to see seattle bring numbers down to pdx and renew the rivalry of old... you can slag off timbers fans all you like, but can't deny we are doing our bit to support the growth/profile of the league. when will you?
Looks as though every soccer fan in the Northwest has posted a comment,..... maybe twice.
When will we? Talk about NOT getting soccer culture and history. Since 1974, and then again since 1994. Both times before PDX, and in the NASL years, not even close. Seattle historically supports pro soccer better than PDX. Supporter group size only matters to people who feel the need to measure, and has almost nothing to do with overall club health.
Daaaaaaaaaaaaave, (is that enough a's?)
Get a clue, how many childish names have you guys came up with for us? It goes both ways.
You p*rtl*nd guys always talk about how you would like to see us grow, and then you post trash like this...

Lame, just like p*rtl*nd.
......answerback...
right. seattle supports soccer.. that was cleared up by this obvioulsy PRO-soccer article above..
you have no atmoshere and that says something about your club and your city.
seattle's is about as passionate for soccer as i am for colostomies
I passionate about my club, if the rest of Seattle gets onboard, great!
I've seen pretty much every pro sports team in this city, and even when they lose the Sounders are by far the best
Seattle passionate for USL-1 soccer? No way. Big league soccer, yes. Huge yearly crowds show there are plenty of fans in the (greater Seattle) area for that...
Maybe if the Sounders had a bigger crowd, this rivalry (and the sounders) would be a bit more interesting, and qwest wouldn't be so "cavernous"
Rose City Til I Die!
So, Seattlest..get off your asses and pimp the SOUNDERS opener on Saturday at QWEST! Or are you too busy sucking the Mariners bats?
I like the part where he talks about 'not touching it with your hands', that is good. it shows he knows something about soccer. but seriously, this is a very poorly written article. he spends most of the body making clear his disdain for the sport and the team, even stating that the new players are not even worth mentioning. And at the end he invites everyone down to the Sounders games, as if anyone would come after reading this article. what an idiot.
you see, this is why the sounders are so easy to laugh at; because sure, they've gotten some trophies, but even so, nobody, not even in their hometown, likes them enough to even show up for a game! this is further evidenced by the diminutive size of their supporter's group.
