Say this for new Sonics owner Clay Bennett--he knows shitty basketball when he sees it. And he's replacing the men most responsible for bringing it to you, GM Rick Sund and coach Bob Hill.
Hill ends his Sonics tenure with a 53-81 career record--worst for any coach who lasted at least a full season since Al Bianchi, who can be excused since he was coaching an expansion team.
We hope this gives some small measure of satisfaction to Bob Weiss, now in the Fox Sports Northwest fired coaches job program--Weiss's winning percentage of .433, for which he was fired, ends up looking stellar next to Hill's .396.
Sund? Well, the Sonics' last three first round picks have been Robert Swift, Johan Petro, and Sene, a record of draft incompetence unmatched since the disastrous James Bailey, Bill Hanzlik, and Danny Vranes truimverate of the early 80s.
Over at the Times', Jerry Brewer's calling for the Sonics to hire Jerry West, who's done such an amazing job in Memphis.
Over at Sonics Central, Brian Robinson points out that the team released this news at 4pm to avoid negative coverage all day on the talk shows--more Orwellian weirdness from the organization.
Supersonicsoul is also pretty cynical:
No big shocker here. The only surprise is they didn't do it four months ago. (Of course, that would have meant the owners were interested in winning in Seattle which, obviously, they weren't.)

Let's avoid the rush and start calling them the Oklahoma City Sonics.
