Pearl District Loves Its Navel More than Capitol Hill Loves Its Own

navel.jpg Neighborhood-centric blog aggregator Outside.in released its list of "America's Top 10 Bloggiest Neighborhoods". Seattle, tech-centric 2.0tropolis that it is, must've cracked the top 10 with at least one neighborhood (cough Capitol Hill cough cough), right?

Nope. There's nary a Capitol Hill, West Seattle, Belltown, or Rainier Beach to be seen.

What neighborhoods beat us? Clinton Hill, Brooklyn; Shaw, DC; Downtown LA; Newton, Mass.; Rogers Park/North Howard, Chicago; Pearl District, Portland; Watertown, Mass.; Harlem, NY; Potrero Hill, SF; and Coconut Grove, FL.

That's right: two 'hoods from Massachusetts and two from NYC made the list.

So what's the bloggiest neighborhood in Seattle? There's no way to tell -- outside.in didn't keep counting after #10. We'd assume it's Capitol Hill, especially if you count Slog as a CH-focused blog. But Wedgwood could always pull an upset...

I've never heard of the site before now, but it's not surprising they don't include any Seattle neighborhoods. I tried registering and it offers only Madrona as a real neighborhood choice beyond "Seattle."

I don't notice any way to add a new neighborhood designation.

That web site doesn't list most Seattle blogs (including CHS, Slog, etc). Even so, it lists more blogs in Capitol Hill than some of the top 10 blogs. It sounds like the writers (who are based in Brooklyn, probably from Mass.) just picked neighborhoods they've heard of.

God I'm so sick of hearing about the Pearl District. It's such a shit-hole these days, totally overrated. Nothing but racist drunks and yuppies down there now. I remember when I was a teenager and it was still mostly industrial--it was safe back then. A couple years ago, a friend of mine's uncle, who's black, was attacked by drunks down there for being with a white woman. It's a seriously classy neighborhood.
