No McMenamins For You, Kenmore!

[UPDATE: Once again we fall prey to the print media's knee-jerk print-first, ask-questions-later response. Man, that kind of rushed, speculative reporting really does a number on our carefully cultivated bloggy credibility.]
We don't talk enough about Kenmore. It seems like it's quiet out there. We listen, we don't hear anything.
Except for the float planes.
And except for the McMenamins proposal to lease the seminary in St. Edwards State Park for use as a brewpub. This seemed like a no-brainer: monks and beer go together, even if they would have been short on monks what with the seminary not being operational.
But that dream, says the Seattle Times today, has been withdrawn.
"It appears to be in the best interest of the Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission, the Kirkbride Group, and the McMenamins organization to not pursue, at this time, the lease to improve and use portions of the St. Edward State Park," wrote K. Frank Kirkbride, president of the development company. Kirkbride noted that the proposal would have called for investing more than $15 million in the property, but he gave no specific reasons for withdrawing the offer.
Immediately after that statement comes this nugget: "The McMenamins proposal had been opposed by community groups who were concerned about commercial development in the park."
Hey, whatever. We're sure the Citizens for St. Edward State Park *coughNIMBYpants* and their "consortium of tenants" can pony up $15 million for renovation. Now that the park's all theirs, we'll be excited to see those plans!
*crickets*
We'll wait right here! Those plans will be along anytime now!
