While wins is a sucky stat, Felix COULD win games on his own, as the rest of the M's stank (Japanese players excluded).

You know, as a Cubs fan, I empathize.

it really is amazing who Bavasi will sign or trade for. Jeff Weaver, Adrian Beltre, Washburn, 15 mil to Sexson?!?!?! What ever happened to smart spending? Its a great thing the M's are in the same division as Bill Stoneman(we gotta hold on to our 4 2b prospects), Tom silly spendin' Hicks(A-rod, CHAN HO PARK), they would be out of the race in the AL East or Central by May

Pitchers do "win" games. After all, they receive official credit for wins and get tagged with losses, unless they don't figure in the decision. So, regardless of whether or not Felix goes up to bat and drives in a run, and regardless of whether or not he makes all 27 outs by himself (which, frankly it looks like he's going to have to do that at some point this season), you can reasonably say that Felix *is* responsible for 40% of the team's wins.

Not only that, but at $490,000 he's getting paid a lot less to do a far better job than his sucky teammates.

"To put it another way--0.39% of the Mariners' payroll is responsible for 40% of its wins."

Huh? You're comparing apples to peacocks. If you really want to work it out this way, then you should be comparing pitchers' salaries only. What percent of pitchers' salaries does Felix get?
