When We Think of Summer, We Think of Car Insurance

esurance.JPG

Finally, someone else sees things our way. Like peanut butter and jelly, there has been one natural combination longing to be put together: having a beer and thinking about your favorite insurance company. Thank God Online providers Esurance have stepped up to the plate. Meshing together insurance needs with scenester whoredom, that's right, this year it's the Esurance Capitol Hill Block Party.

The Esurance Capitol Hill Block Party is a huge, two-day explosion of bands and a unique combination of Seattle Music Community forces including The Stranger, 90.3 KEXP, The Vera Project, Neumo’s, Fuzed Music, Mackie and Home Alive, bringing together over 40 bands on 3 stages into the Northwest’s biggest celebration of independent music, art and progressive culture. Partial proceeds from The Block Party benefit Home Alive and The Vera Project. The Vendor section is made up of local independent businesses, indie crafts people, local artists, and various non-profit and political groups. All this takes place on Capitol Hill in Seattle at Pike and Broadway.

Despite the shuddering that accompanies soulless corporate sponsorship, we have to admit the lineup's looking good:

Friday, July 27 - Silversun Pickups, Girl Talk, Viva Voce, The Cave Singers, Grand Archives Saturday, July 28 - Spoon, Aesop Rock, The Blakes, The Intelligence, The Whore Moans

Not bad, considering there's over thirty more acts to be announced next month. We've heard rumors of some sort of surprise reunion. Check for updates to the lineup here.

Tix are available to the masses starting Friday at 10am, but the presale is going on now. Use the password BLOCKPARTY and get 'em here. Considering last year's block party sold out way in advance, you might want to take care of this now. And while you're at it, go get some esurance for your hooptie.

Esurance? Bleh...their commercials are horrible. Could they have at least gotten Geico? At least then they might have a guy in a gecko suit walking around.

Hi, I'm the Director of Brand & PR at Esurance.

Too bad about the guy who doesn't like our ads. (Quite a few people do though, as the artwork you feature is actually some fan art, something which most "soulless corporations" don't attract or allow.)

Just wanted to say (though you probably won't believe me) that we're here with our souls intact. That's why we wanted to support something cool & local that celebrates creativity and talent like the Capitol Hill Block Party.

In fact, we're going to animate one of the bands who wins a kind of battle of the bands thing and get their music on-air nationally. We just started out in 1999, so we'd like to use our success to give other people a shot at their creative pursuits.

Thanks for letting people know that they should get Esurance for their hoopties, and that they should to go check out the great line-up at the Capitol Hill Block Party.
