Seth, great tip--wish I heard it two weeks ago when we went. We took 5, but then followed Chuckanut up into B'ham for the night. Next time we head up we're taking this Marine Drive, though.

If you're taking the whole day off, a really nice scenic way to go it get off I-5 at Marysville and roll west along Marine Drive, which, as its name indicates, follows the Sound.

Marine Drive soon turns due north, winding through some awfully pretty farmland, and connects up to the OLD n/s highway near Stanwood. From there, you go north to Conway, which is the heart of tulip country.
