I'm more upset by the loss of cigarette smoke in bars/pubs than I am by the introduction of hard liquor, and I'm a non-smoking ex-asthmatic. I want my dive bars to be absolute dives, up to and including the need for SCUBA gear.

I'm as happy as anyone at the Blue Moon's apparent victory over the good neighbor agreement brigade, but I'd rather celebrate that win by the Moon continuing on into the future as it ever was. Of course, the introduction of hard alcohol hasn't necessarily changed the character of every bar it's found its way into, as I used to fear. The Comet is stil the Comet, for example. Feel free to email me with this list of the 43 holdouts.

There are but 43 taverns, pubs, whatever you want to call them, left in Seattle proper. These places are unique, and it's sad to see them disappear -- but in regards to the Moon, their obtaining a full license is especially sweet because it means they routed Tom Carr and Mayor Nickels' Cosmopolitan Gestapo.
