The Comedians Of Comedy, New To Us

comofcom.JPGMaybe (okay, most likely) Seattlest is waaay behind on this, but we just watched The Comedians of Comedy and we gotta say, good stuff. You see, our better half is out of town this weekend so we're passing the time doing what any good husband would do in his wife's absence -- putting a nice dent in the checking account by renting movies and drinking too many gin & tonics.

The Seattle connection? Okay. The tour (and thus the film) begins in Seattle. And the first third or so of the film takes place in Seattle, with the stage scenes occurring at Neumos.

The long and short of it: Don't be like us. Don't wait any longer. Get off the couch, drive to a video store (so long as it's not Blockbuster -- movie censoring cunts that they are), and rent this film.

Some highlights:

- The super-nerdy and strangely adorable Brian Posehn on the the Star Wars Prequels: "I worshiped George Lucas. I spent so much money on that guy's bullshit, but now, to me, I look at those two movies as betrayal. To me it's like, your uncle put his wiener near your mouth."

- Zach Galifianakis and pretty much every thing he says and does.

- The strange "celebrity encounters" the comedians endure at random gas stations (and at the corner of Pike and 1st in Seattle).

- The 16 year-old fangirl with an impressive grasp on humor and sarcasm.

- Patton Oswalt on the all-ages show: "Is this an all-ages show? Oh, fuck, really? I feel really bad now for shooting heroine into the vein under my dick. I'm sorry. Whoops!"

- Patton Oswalt's idea for the Gay Retard Parade.

Okay, okay... our so-called "highlights" don't do the film (or the comedians) any sort of justice. Just rent it.

P.S. "I would love to be in the most independent movie ever made." - ZG

The series that aired on Comedy Central is more of the same.. and they've got at least another dvd out, too, "Live at the El Ray." It's all top notch. When they do another leg of the tour you should NOT miss their live shows. They're always uniquely hilarious and awesome.

Yeah, the dvd I rented had "Live at the El Ray" on side B. Great stuff.
