Years ago, (2000 or 2001) either the Times or the P-I did a piece on the Real Change guy who hangs in front of the U-district Safeway. He may be the most successful RC vendor, and he lives in an apartment, or used to, in Lake City. So this is not as newsy as some might imagine.
