So Far, Bumbershoot Lineup Fails to Impress

bumbershoot.jpg

Our first taste of the 2007 Bumbershoot lineup leaves us hungry for so much more.

The full-flavored list of cross-genre musical artists scheduled to perform at the 2007 Bumbershoot includes:

The Shins, Wu-Tang Clan, Panic! At The Disco, Crowded House, Lupe Fiasco, Steve Earle, DeVotchKa, Devendra Banhart, Gogol Bordello, Kill Hannah, Norma Jean, Plain White T's, The Gourds, Lyrics Born, Roky Erickson & The Explosives, The Holmes Brothers, The Avett Brothers, Yungchen Lhamo, Allison Moorer, Magnolia Electric Company, The Aggrolites

We'll give that a big ol' "meh." The Shins? It's their nine millionth Bumbershoot appearance and we're sooooo over it. Wu-Tang? Only if they've got a resurrected and zombiefied ODB in tow. Panic! at the Disco? Don't even get us started on that horrid emo band and their extraneous exclamation point. Gogol Bordello, DeVotchKa, and Devendra Banhart are all fine festival selections, but they're not enough to get us to deal with the Bumbershoot crowds, prices, and heat. Miranda July and Davy Rothbert are a good start for the Literary Arts program, but with no announcement yet on the comedy tip, we're gonna hold off on making a Seattle Center commitment to Labor Day weekend until we've got more to go on. For now, Bumbershoot, you're only down in pencil.

The full-festival $60 passes are all sold out, but the three-day $75 pass is still available

Wow. This line up's as bad as Sasquatch. Gogol Bordello's about it. Come on--no Smashing Pumpkins?

Yeah Gogol Bordello is the only thing worth coming out for. It always seems innappropriate to see them outside of a small dirty club though

You tell it sister! Next will be the announcement for the resurrection of some now defunct Seattle Band.

Actually, Jason, Crowded House appears to be this year's designated "reunion" band. I'm sure the 16-year-old Lynnwoodites who patronize this festival in droves will be loving that.

so this is a bit underwhelming compared to last year's Common Market, Blue Scholars, Lady Soverign, Kayne West, Zero 7 and plenty more I am very underwhelmed. More amazing bands better be added so getting a 3-day pass is worth my while.

1. How can you now be excited about Wu-Tang? It's sure to be hilarious!
2. Lani, Kanye sucked live. All he did was talk about how awesome his "producin' skillz" are.

Besides, y'all know the local and smaller stuff comes later...THAT's what makes Bumbershoot worth it.
