Brooklyn's Calla played to a relatively sparse crowd last night at the Croc. It's hard to expect more considering the hailstorm and the fact that it was Sunday night, but we've appreciated this band for years and had hopes that more of Seattle would turn out.
Despite the attendance, Calla played their set with the same verve they always have. "Enthusiasm" wouldn't be the best term to use, since the bulk of Calla's output consists of slow, brooding numbers fit for cold, rainy nights, but the band was appreciative of their reception and showed no signs of disappointment (no drama here). They played a mix of material from their entire catalogue, surprising us a bit with their new, more upbeat numbers. The tempo changes didn't change the overall tone of the performance however, with the evening managing to maintain its dark, tense mood. We hope Calla returns to Seattle soon, and we hope to see more of you there, joining us in our shoegazing sway.

Tuesdays are Muppet Days
