November is not over a year ago (I know because my birthday is in November and, well, I own a calendar and everything). Also, Madison Valley/Madrona isn't the 9th ward of New Orleans. And one tragic, freak accident death doesn't equal thousands displaced and homeless and hundreds dead. But other than that, it's exactly the same situation. Now, let me tell you about the parallels between the German Invasion of Poland in 1938 and the recent usurpation of the trademarked term "sugar" by a certain local bakery....

WTF? It's neither inappropriate nor obscure: in both cities documented weaknesses in civic infrastructure took lives and demolished property, and over a year later, not enough has been done to address either the losses or the weaknesses in the political machinery that permitted the poor planning. Of course, with the exception of the floods and deaths, that's also true for everywhere else in the country, so, that undermines the whole Katrina thing.

I took this photo right by the Madison Valley stormwater drainage facility near E. John and 30th Ave E. The area still has a bunch of portable storage units around the houses that were flooded in November. There's been an ongoing debate regarding the storm drainage in this area, with residents claiming that the neighborhood infrastructure has been chronically neglected for political/economic reasons.

Residents of Madison Valley are complaining about the delay in city payments for flood damages, and in a startlingly inappropriate comparison have latched onto the notion that their Madison Valley-experience (their contractors have been WAITING and WAITING to renovate their homes!) is comparable to what folks who lived through Katrina are going through.

I see 'stormwater' on the background sign. maybe the area this sign was found in has some flooding problems.
