geez, I may be late on this thread, but reading the rants of the sugardelights owner makes me want to support her 'rival' the sugar shack instead... petty.. like others have said, I agree, sugar is synonomous with sweets and baking, not all that original, so I cant believe that it is shocking to see that another bakery would use that word in its title.. stop your crying.

Geez...lay off on the name thing! :o) Bottom line here is that they ARE indeed open now, and I've been there several times at this point. The pastries are FABULOUS, the coffee is EXCELLENT, and the service is great too. I highly recommend the spiced mexican cookie and the savory scone (and so far everything else I've tried is delicious as well). YUM!

There's no legal infringement going on here, so really it's a moot point. Sugar is a popular word for companies to have in their name. Sugar Delights and Sugar Shack Baking Company are different names, and, more relevantly, they are distinctly different brands. The service and products will define success, not the exclusivity of a name. No offense to anyone involved, but using "sugar" in the name of a company that creates sweets isn't all that original to begin with. That's where the rest of "branding" comes in. All in all, I'd say "get over it." This isn't the first time it's happened and I guarantee you it won't be the last.

I have absolutely NO problem with any other company using the word "sugar" in their business name, just so long as they are not a SIMILAR type of company, for example, another bakery with offerings similar to ours.

Stephanie is right. How dare someone else use such a unique word like "sugar" in their business title. It is just sooo confusing. I keep wandering into Sugar's in Shoreline, expecting cupcakes and tiramisu, but what do I find? Naked ladies. For shame.

Geeze, everybody. Can't anybody who starts a bakery look in the business license database for Washington and see that there are already 3 bakeries in Seattle that begin with Sugar! WE were the first, and we're just sick of people creating confusion in the marketplace by opening a business with a similar name. Get your own name and idea, people. It's SOOOOO frustrating when people come up to us and tell us what we've done and we have to say, "oh, you mean the OTHER sugar!". What also sucks is that we can't do anything about it except be frustrated, but I'm sure if somebody opened a coffee shop called Starbucker there would be hell to pay. Apologies to the neighborhood, unfortunatley I ran into some minor difficulties and was unable to open tuesday. I didn't mean to break any hearts. Lake City Way and 15th Ave, I believe. It shares a wall with All the Best (the pet store), is across the driveway from Mr. Villa, and across the street from Tony's, the Italian place that had the car drive through it a couple of months ago.

Sugar Shack will be open tomorrow (Wednesday 3/14)! I live across the street, and we have been quizzing them for weeks. They promise an outstanding german chocolate cupcake. See you there.
