Oh, Sugar Shack Baking Co., Why Do You Tease Us So?
Such a tease.
The interior of this former "place to pimp your import ride" on Lake City Way has been hidden for the last couple of months behind windows full of brown paper.
The paper finally came down yesterday -- Monday -- revealing chairs, tables, and a menu listing pies, cakes, sandwiches, and other delights. Plus espresso, of course. At least we think it said something about espresso.
"Open Tuesday through Sunday," we said to ourselves. "They'll be open tomorrow morning! We'll stop by!"
We know -- those of you who live in urban areas like Capitol Hill or Queen Anne or Wallingford don't lack for local bakeries. Those of us along Lake City Way? Well, Bill Pierre didn't build his empire selling pie.
So we stopped by this morning, on our way to work. What flavorful and unhealthy breakfast could we indulge in? Oh, the suspense.
But Sugar Shack Baking Co. broke our heart a little bit, because they're not actually open yet. Our wife said they had a bouquet, and some balloons, and we're pretty sure they weren't there last night. But the display case was empty, the door was locked, and the storefront was uninhabited.
We'll stop by again when you're open, Sugar Shack, and we're sure the rest of your store is as charming as your front door. But was it too much to expect for a sign indicating when you'd really be open?
