The Rep Plans To Be Around Next Season

This just in:

Seattle Rep’s 2007-2008 season in the Bagley Wright Theatre begins with Shakespeare’s beloved comedy, Twelfth Night, followed by a powerful play about the Cuban revolution, The Cook by Eduardo Machado. A new play, The Breach about Hurricane Katrina comes next, then the classic Molière comedy, The Imaginary Invalid, and finally Nobel Prize-winning poet Seamus Heaney brings his skills to a classic Greek adventure in The Cure at Troy.

In the Leo K. Theatre the list includes Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Robert Schenkkan’s passionate love story about a Cuban gardener living in Texas, By the Waters of Babylon; Seattle Repertory Theatre has commissioned NPR humorist Kevin Kling to write how? how? why? why? about his debilitating motorcycle accident, an offbeat comedy by Jeffrey Hatcher about three Florida retirees, Murderers; and the winner of the 2004 Pulitzer Prize for drama and the Tony Award for best play, I Am My Own Wife by Doug Wright.

So let's see, on the mainstage: classic, one for the boomers, hot topic, classic, and hot classic.

Then, in the Leo K: sometimes we hang out with Robert Schenkkan (which makes us kick ourselves for never making it to The Kentucky Cycle) so we're locked in for this one. Then NPR comedy, offbeat comedy, and transvestite comedy-drama.

Looks like Esbjornson is reading his audience perfectly. Though of course with a name like Esbjornson, he was going to get the Ballard vote anyway. At first glance, we're most excited by the Seamus Heaney play, The Cure at Troy. But that's just us. Your mileage may vary.
