Spencer Hawes Denied His Dream of an NIT Championship
The Huskies weren't among the 64 teams picked for the NCAA tournament, then neither were they among the 32 teams picked for the NIT. Down here at Seattlest HQ, stunned silence. After the first two regions were revealed, we sort of joked, "Uh-oh, looks like we didn't make it!" And then, when the final bracket was shown, well, wow...we really didn't make it!
C.M. Newton, who headed the NIT selection committee, explained the selection process thusly: "It's kind of like putting the fox in the henhouse." So the Huskies are the hens? Or the foxes? Or the field mice? Not really sure. One thing is sure: NIT-ology, you projected the Huskies as an NIT #5-seed? You have your head up your ass.
We started to get upset about this, because the Huskies beat UCLA, an NCAA #2-seed, Oregon, an NCAA #3-seed, and USC, and NCAA #5-seed, but then we realized--fuck it, it's the NIT. Who really cares.
"Friend of Seattlest" Jason suggests: "I refuse to get upset about this, but next time we get an NIT bid, I say we say 'You know what? We're stayin' home."
Seattlest David's addendum: "How about we say, yeah, we'll be there, and then just not show up?"
We're so bummed out, we're watching that Harold and Kumar go to White Castle movie.
We can't tell you when the Huskies' next game will be. Their '06-'07 schedule was finalized in July of '06, we assume the same will be true of the '07-'08 one. Go Wazzu!
