Hey--Shouldn't We Get Winner?
One first round NCAA matchup is #2-seed UCLA against #15-seed Weber State--both teams that the Huskies beat!
They beat UCLA, by 10, in the final game of the regular season last Saturday. Weber State the Dawgs beat by 29, pushing their record to 10-1, on December 23rd. The Dawgs moved up to #13 in the next coaches poll, then they lost three Pac-10 games in a row, and, well, let's just not talk about it. But, still--can't we get winner? Guess not.
As for the other, better teams in the state, it should be a rowdy couple of days for regulars on the Spokane-Sacramento flight--both Washington State and Gonzaga play there Thursday.
#3-seed Washington State plays #14-seed Oral Roberts on Thursday. We know whose side God will be on. We also know which side CBS's Seth Davis is on, he predicted on the tournament show that ORU will beat Wazzu. Davis also predicted, in the 2005 tourney, that Pacific would beat then #1-seed Washington--the Dawgs won by 18. Don't think Coug fans have much to worry about.
Also on Thursday, #10-seed (!) Gonzaga plays Indiana in the tourney for the second year in a row. Last year the #3-seeded Zags beat #6-seed Indiana in the second round, 90-80. If the Zags win again, they'd probably have another rematch, this one of last year's tear-inducing (for pussies who don't play defense) 73-71 loss to UCLA. The Bruins, should they get by the aforementioned Weber State, play the winner of Gonzaga/Indiana.
Another thing about Seth Davis--they listed their "sleeper" teams, and Davis picked Texas. Texas? The #4-seed? The team with the best player in the country? Yeah, they'll be sneaking up on everybody. Mr. Davis, you bring shame to an otherwise wonderful name.
