Madame Hooky's Crystal Ball

snow-globe.jpgOur own Madame Hooky divines whether it's worth calling in sick Friday and heading for the slopes. She'll conjure your excuse and tell you where to go.

As I stare into my crystal snow ball, I see you sitting at your desk tomorrow. You are frustrated, and you are not alone. Last week brought some of the most magical conditions to Alpental I've ever seen, and the predictions were for another front to move in early this week for a repeat performance. But that did not happen. Yes, Tuesday's balmy temps were a temporary lift of the spirit, but it is too damn early for that and you all knew it wouldn't last anyhow. It's like the one time that hot guy you always see in the coffee shop gave you an obviously prolonged glance as you walked in: damn that was nice, but really, where can that lead but disappointment?

In the meantime, a dearth of new snow over the past week combined with high temps mean slushier slopes that will turn to ice as it gets colder. Some new snow is beginning to fall again, but the Alpental site reports currently having "Wet Snow, Spring Conditions." So suffer the cube this Friday, intrepid snow seekers of Seattle, and rack up your "wellness day" points for future powder days. (If you just can't take it, and hooky you must, save your lift ticket dollars and blow a few of them watching Seth scream non-stop at a TV in public.)
