Which Of These Comments Is Most Offensive?

adc.jpgA friend of ours is shopping for a new-to-her car, having accepted the probable death of her beloved Geo Metro. She visited a Puyallup used car lot to test drive a VW Beetle, and the salesguy helping her came out with three memorably offensive comments:

1) He said he was scared of Vietnamese people. "Whenever they come onto the lot, I run away."

2) She mentioned that she liked the seat warmer. "Women always have cold butts," he noted.

3) At the end of the test drive, as our friend was trying to leave, he asked what price would get her to take the car home today. "$3000," she replied. "Funny," he said. "You don't look Jewish."

We knew there was a reason we avoided used car lots. And now we've got at least three more.

There was a fascinating/frustrating discussion of this kind of car salesman stupidity recently at Malcolm Gladwell's blog -- gladwell.com.

Wow! Racist, sexist, and anti-Semitic. The trifecta of bigotry! Did he have any apropos comments about the evils of the UN, or perhaps a pithy comment about African-Americans to boot?
