JAZZ: Though it's presented by Starbucks, the real stars of Hot Java Cool Jazz are the five area high school jazz bands. Each band (representing Garfield, Roosevelt, Shorewood, Mountlake Terrace, and Edmonds-Woodway) shows what they got, while all proceeds from ticket sales go back to the performing schools. It's pretty much win-win.

WATER: Entrepreneur and inventor Dean Kamen will talk about his two newest devices, each about the size of a washing machine, which can provide much-needed clean water and power in the third world. We saw a guy commuting home on a Segway the other day, and we'll take clean water and cheap power for Africa over that any day.
