Get Out

2007logo1.jpgBOOKS: Like mysteries? The 17th Annual Western Mystery Fan convention continues through the 4th. For a group focused on clues and figuring things out, they spell things out incredibly well on their website. Where's the fun in that?

9am-5pm // Renaissance Seattle Hotel, 515 Madison St // $60 (day pass)

YO-YO: It's the annual Pacific Northwest Yo-Yo Championship. It sounds a little odd, and it is, but it's definitely a sight to behold, with people doing tricks that you wouldn't believe if you didn't see it for yourself. It's also free, so if you've got time to kill, this is one of the better ways to do so.

9:30am-4pm // Seattle Center, Center House, 305 Harrison Street
// FREE

MUSIC: The Roots didn't become legendary because of their albums. That's not to say that they haven't put out some good albums (Seattlest considers Things Fall Apart to be great), but we've heard for years that live is where the collective has always shone, and now they're bringing that to Seattle.

8:00pm doors (SOLD OUT early show) & 11pm doors (late show) // The Showbox, 1426 1st Ave// $32.50

FILM: SIFF makes for a much more pronounceable acronym than SFSFF, but all the same, the Science Fiction Short Film Festival looks to reign in the chaos of SIFF with a tighter focus and less overwhelming duration. Twenty films, with audience participation for the competition portion.

4-6pm & 7-9pm // Cinerama, 4th & Lenora // $9

  • Walking through Pioneer Square, we spotted a large conflagration of Mystery Writers and Fans preparing to embark on a special evening underground tour. They were identifiable by their characteristic mystery writer hats.
