Mayor's Spilled Beer Ruins Bet

Greg_Nickels.jpgAs we have documented before our local politicians enjoy wagering on sportsball games with politicians from other cities. However, for some reason our guys keep picking the Seattle team and losing the best.

The latest of these bets was between Mayor Nickels and Chicago Mayor Daley over the recent Seahawks-Bears playoff game. Once the Bears won Nickels owed Daley some microbrew, coffee, and other Northwest goodies.

However, much like his plan for a waterfront tunnel, the package fell apart.

According to the Chicago Sun Times, "Several bottles in the six-pack of beer had broken, soaking a 2-pound box of coffee-flavored chocolate and several pounds of cheese."

Wait, cheese? Anyway, it looks as if even when our sports teams lose we still can't get it right.

Nickels press secretary Marty McOmber claimed that is was an accident, and replacements would be sent out.

"We are absolutely not sore losers," said McOmber, adding, "If you look at the pass interference call in the Super Bowl that nullified Darrell Jackson's touchdown, you'll see Chris Hope was making all the contact."

The two mayors will get another chance to wager when the Mariners play the Cubs in the 20never World Series.
