Open Haus at Fire Station 17

firestation17.jpg

If you like trucks, if you like the darndest equipment and gear, or if beefy firefighters and/or the color fuck me red turns you on, grab the family and head on over to Fire Station 17 this weekend! They are having an Open House this Saturday. We live about two blocks from these guys and girls and they really earn their keep; we're glad to have them as neighbors. We occasionally see one come in to buy a snack at the Plaid Pantry on 50th and Roosevelt while we are buying aerosol cheese and print pornography. Every time, we want to hug the living beejeezus out of them --but we don't because it might seem a little forward. Maybe we'll bring them hot soup instead.

Between pesky UW scientists setting campus on fire, fumbling frat boys lighting couches ablaze in the median of Frat Row's parkway, and general arson in the U-District, Station 17 is a busy beat. They deserve a visit, a hearty handshake, and a sincere "thank you". Were that not enough, Station 17 is a gorgeous Art Deco inspired building. Historic Seattle has this to say about this pending landmark:

Prominently sited at 1050 NE 50th Street, the 1929 University District station was renovated in the late 1980s, but seismic work included within this update was not sufficient to bring the building up to current seismic standards. The levy calls for a number of adaptations to current programmatic ideals, and an expansion. The station is vaguely art deco in design.

So come on down, grab a fountain drink next door, and check it out! Here's the no-nonsense flyer.

Fire Station 28 (5968 Rainier Ave S) is also having a Sat open house between 2p and 4p.

Fuck me red? Grow up and learn to use real words instead of being vulgar.
