Canada Is Creepier Today

9-1-Pig-farm-arial-view.jpgWe'd like to be able to say in full confidence that we'd never attend a rave at a pig farm in the country surrounding Vancouver, B.C., particularly if we were invited by this guy, but you never know. That guy is Robert or "Willie" Pickton and he's on trial in Vancouver right now for killing two six people, although it seems like he'll eventually be charged with many more. Like serial killer more. He claims 49, or did at one point. Here's a picture of his spread. We don't want to judge a man's crib --hey, it rains and not everyone in the world lives in condos with fancy furniture in the lobby and doormen-- but that place looks fucking scary and so does he and this trial is making us reconsider Canada. While we don't want to judge, sometimes it's in our best interest - That place, and that guy are the biological justification for our ability to detect "creepy." Stay away from that dude and you'll live longer, your nervous system is telling you. Then again, he's got a big bag of weed and he just wants to party. Out at his pig farm.

Of course our papers are reporting on the story:

The brothers reared pigs on the family's 17-acre farm outside Vancouver, where investigators say the Picktons threw drunken raves where there were prostitutes and drugs.

After Robert Pickton's arrest in February 2002, health officials issued a tainted-meat advisory to neighbors who may have bought pork from his farm, concerned that it may have contained human remains.

But for the full-on, wall-to-wall coverage you gotta go up to the Vancouver Sun's website. Then again, maybe dissappearing Downtown Eastside prostitutes turning up in rural pig feed is detail enough...

And not all pig farmers are creepy, by the way. Just Canadian ones.

    That cracked me up!

Unfortunately for all of us, there are a lot of creepy people in North America.

I didn't realize that your media was covering the Pickton story. Up here, unless you are in Vancouver or you look for the story, you don't really hear about it. Our media is different.

People think our justice system is almost the same, but it, too, is quite different. My American friends are often shocked at what does and does not happen in our system. - That is when they're not laughing at me for my "funny spelling" and my habitual use of the word, "eh" (even in court, eh.)

  • From what I remember reading about this guy years ago is that he mostly just picked up prostitutes from Vancouver's lovely eastside.

Need I remind everyone that we've had our fair share of, ehem, 'creepy' serial killers in the Evergreen state???

Hey Dan ... Ex_Pat here again.

I was at this psychos farm for a work job prior to him being arrested. I was working for the local cablevision company at the time. I was installing a cable modem and configuring the computer. It's odd because I'm not the type that believes in "wierd feelings" or a "sixth sense" ... but the entire time I was there I had the creeps ... more then just the creeps actually ... it was just a scary place to be.

But my point was simply that I wished I had followed this feeling I had and let police know ... or seen something that would have given them something to go on sooner. Instead a few more years went by and more women were tragically murdered.

My aunt runs the building right beside the courthouse that this guy is being tried in. The government has rented out a whole floor for a media centere.

Notice the Canadian spelling - it's so you'll know I'm legit.

As a proud Canadian living in BC, I wanted to tell you to check your facts..

First, Mr. Pickton in on trial for 6 murders, not 2. I also find it offensive that you would associate a psycho serial killer with Canada in general. The rest of the world does not group Americans in with the fine specimans of psychos that country has produced.

  • Dan

    Court, good point...

Ex_Pat, were you there for the investigation into the serial murders or for some other reason?

And I know he's charged with 26 murders. He's currently on trial for only six of them, though. I said two, so, I'm closer. Poke poke.

  • Seth

OK, yeah, he's a creepy murderer, but you've gotta sorta admire the sick genius behind how he responded to the charges--here's the P-I headline:

Canadian pig farmer charged with 26 deaths calls allegations 'hogwash'

  • Ex_Pat

Creepier than you can imagine. I had the misfortune of being at this "farm" in 1999 before he was arrested when I worked for a local cablevision company. I had chills the moment I drove onto the property ... If only I had seen some sign of what was happening maybe he would have been stopped sooner.

Might want to research your stories a little more though.

This animal has been charged with 26 murders thus far and more charges could still be laid.

Canadians cannot be judged in any way by the acts of one maniac though. Just take a look at how many serial killers America has produced ... and we don't think you're creepy ... just uninformed. *poke poke* ;)

  • Courtney

I'm sorta with you on this one Dan, but we are throwing rocks from the dead horse fucker state.
