Solon Squabble! Pol Polemics! Executive Emnity over Viaduct Replacement

catfightseattle.jpgGov. Gregoire told Mayor Nickels Wednesday afternoon that the tunnel option for replacing the Viaduct is dead.

Mayor Nickels sees this as an Olympia vs. Seattle issue, and has released a defiant statement that, reflecting the overwhelming city support for the tunnel, is co-signed by the entire city council a majority of the city council several members of the city council Jan Drago.

We are deeply disappointed with the announcement today by the Governor and legislative leadership. After asking for a public vote, the leadership in Olympia is now saying they are not interested in the opinions of Seattle citizens. ...No other city in the state has been treated in this manner.

No other city! Not Index, not Oroville, not Ephrata, not Forks, not Sedro-Woolley, not Darrington, not Pateros, not Sprague, not Pe Ell, not Vader, not Tekoa, not Cashmere, not Silverton, not even Humptulips! NO! Only Seattle!

Adds Nickgo:

We will move forward with our plans to put the question on the ballot and let the people of Seattle decide the future of our city.

We will follow the will of the people of Seattle, not the dictates of Olympia.

Oh, God forbid the Viaduct replacement be anything but another cheapjack, ugly elevated freeway (we could call it the "Christine Gregoire Memorial Viaduct").

Or maybe we should just replace it with another useless sculpture garden so that the entire downtown waterfront looks like the front lawn of an office park in Dallas, instead of just the northern tip.

Seattle is so fucking stupid sometimes. I'm so glad I moved outside the city.

//We will follow the will of the people of Seattle, not the dictates of Olympia.//

Prediction:
1. Will be brought to voters.
2. Tunnel option will win by about 1%.
3. Gregoire will reiterate that the state will not be paying for a tunnel.
4. City council will go ahead with tunnel anyway.
5. Taxes.
6. Cost over-runs before the project begins.
7. Taxes.
8. Breaking ground.
9. Taxes.
10.More cost over-runs.
11.Taxes.
12.Scandal.
13.Project scrapped.
14.Taxes.
15.Ugly elevated freeway constructed.

Ruuuuuuummmmmmble! Please, anything to convince me that the elected officials in the city have some balls.

Gregoire is "the Decider"
