No Big UW Tuition Hike, Reports Seattle Examiner
To which the first question is, What the hell's a Seattle Examiner? It turns out to be part of Qwest billionaire and conservative Christian Philip Anschutz's online media empire: 22 U.S. cities now have Examiners. (Though there look to be Examiner staff on-the-ground in only four: Baltimore, Washington, D.C., Denver, and San Francisco.) Who knew? This is what happens when we don't have Mossback to kick around any more.
"Their" Seattle UW tuition story is actually from AP, as is every other link we clicked. For the local eye on the story, there's the UW Daily's version.
UW President Mark Emmert has decided to temporarily suspend his plan of substantial tuition hikes for the coming years because of increased monetary earmarks for the UW, outlined in Gov. Christine Gregoire’s 2007-09 budget. While in-state students no longer need to worry about tuition going up nearly 50 percent as previously estimated, there are still no guarantees the tuition will remain fixed at its current amount.
Gregoire’s budget gives the UW administrators the discretion to increase tuition rates up to a maximum of 7 percent each year.
Before you UW kids go blow the savings on beer and belly shots, keep in mind that Governor Gregoire's budget hasn't been okayed yet. And if the Seattle Times has anything to say about it, it won't be. Ever.
