Mariners Make a Move that Won't be Universally Hated
Which of the following will you not hear on a Mariners television broadcast this season:
A. "Lined back up the middle, and that is Vidro's third hit of the game."
B. "Swing and a miss, and it's over. The Amazing Horacio has come through again."
C. Rick Rizzs
D. All of the above.
Sadly, the answer is D.
The Mariners have announced their 2007 broadcast team, following the departure of Ron Fairly, and Rizzs is being bumped from most television broadcasts to call the games on radio full time.
This means if you want to hear him tell stories about his youth on the South Side of Chicago, going to Old Comiskey with his brother Bobby and then heading home for a plate of his mother's rigatoni-panash, you'll have to trade in your iPod for a device that picks up something called AM. Following this news our father will probably give you his.
Apparently Dave Valle and Dave Henderson are out, and Mike Blowers and Dave Sims are in. We like Blowers, his post game analysis on KJR and KOMO is insightful, and it's enjoyable to hear him defend the team while sounding as depressed as we are about the season.
We've never heard of Dave Sims but our pal Bob Wikipedia has, and according to him he's primarily called college sports on the East Coast and hosts the popular XM science fiction program "Basketball and Beyond with Coach K" along with Duke Coach Mike Kshzyekewvki.
Oh, and we can all on go on living because Dave Niehaus will be back.
